Cast Stone

Cheminée Designs uses a proprietary process to create custom fiber-reinforced cast stone fireplace surrounds, hearths, mantels, moldings, baseboards, kitchen vent hoods, and other architectural elements.  With unlimited design possibilities and 25 colors, Cheminée Designs can either match or complement other favorite pieces in your home, or we can create an entirely new design.  

Our cast stone pieces include the following:

• Fireplace Surrounds; and

• Kitchen Vent Overhoods and Backsplashes.

Cast stone offers several advantages over natural stone in terms of the level of detail, weight, time required, and expense.  With its unique combination of custom molding and carving, Cheminée Designs can achieve remarkable detail that is not possible with traditional stone carving.  In terms of weight, while a cast stone fireplace surround and mantel is  heavy, it is a fraction of the weight of marble.  Use of cast stone does not require structural engineering to increase the weight-bearing capacity that a slab stone fireplace surround might require.  Due to our proprietary casting and molding process, Cheminée Designs can dramatically reduce the time that would be needed to carve your project in natural stone.  One of the greatest advantages is the level of detail that can be achieved by molding and carving cast stone, allowing unlimited design possibilities.  Because we can complete your project in less time than it would take to carve natural stone and it weighs less than natural stone, a Cheminée Designs project offers significant cost savings over stone carving.  In addition, we can offer colors and finishes that you may not be able to find in stone slabs.  A Cheminée Designs project offers an affordable means to dramatically improve the look of your home.  

Cast stone offers a distinct advantage over a wood fireplace surround in that the fireproof cast stone has zero clearance from the firebox.  Since wood will burn, it cannot be within 8 to 10 inches of the firebox (depending on the size of the firebox and local code).  

Cheminée Designs offers fireplace surrounds primarily for three distinct customers:

• New Construction:  Whatever your style, Cheminée Designs can develop a custom design that will enhance your home, from a mantel or hearth, to a full fireplace surround.  We can create beautiful, detailed pieces that make your home distinctive.  Combined with our herringbone fireboxes, your fireplace will be a showpiece.

• Renovation:  Cheminée Designs can update your older wood- or gas-burning fireplace with a stunning surround, mantel, or hearth that will add beauty and value to your home.  Please also see our herringbone fireboxes.

• Gas-burning Fireplace Inserts or Stoves:  Cheminée Designs can design new pieces that integrate your gas-burning fireplace insert or logs with your fireplace surround to create a more elegant, classical look. 

Our cast stone fireplace and kitchen pieces are completely fireproof and meet or exceed all building codes.  Our finishes range from polished marble to aged, weathered stone.  All pieces are created off-site in Cheminée Designs' workshop prior to installation in your home.

Plaster

Cheminée Designs also creates pieces out of architectural-grade plaster.  Larger pieces are reinforced with fibers on the inside to increase strength.  Plaster is noncombustible, will not shrink or expand, and allows for incredible detail in a cost-effective medium.  Cheminée Designs uses a proprietary combination of molding, carving, and finish detail  in its pieces, enabling us to achieve old-world craftsmanship in a modern setting.
